About Maye
Originally from Sète, it was in Montpellier, where Maye grew up, that he discovered graffiti at the age of 13 and fell in love with hip hop culture.
Passionate about drawing since always, graffiti allows Maye to get out of his neighborhood, to discover other people and other cultures, especially that of skateboarding.
Meetings which, since 2004, will only enrich his knowledge and his surrealist art from the new school.
He embarked on painting on canvas in 2013 in order to perpetuate his art, to develop his works in a more detailed way and to bring narration to his characters while drawing inspiration from his murals.
While the artist initially drew short and overweight figures, he opted to go in reverse of his own drawing to create curious long, wiry, lean and curvy individuals. es. At the heart of dreamlike, poetic or even absurd situations, these strange characters seem to be suspended in the air or held by cables like puppets on which a number of elements are incorporated, thus offering passers-by ·s reading keys.
Acrylic, spray can, brush, pen… so many techniques used by Maye to create gradations of pastel colors in her works often inspired by Nature. Although natural landscapes appear frequently in Maye, urban planning is emphasized, thus echoing our contemporary society and all the issues that arise from it.
Maye happens to work with his cousin Momies, a renowned graffiti artist from Montpellier. Their worlds mix well, Momies influenced by both the New York graffiti scene and the new school and Maye by the new school.
